The tour is a one hour tour, for six people, in English of the oldest parts of the Bodleian Library (the oldest public library in the UK). You will visit the gothic glory of Divinity School, the University’s first purpose built teaching room (1488) which has been used in many films (including Harry Potter). Also included are the Convocation House and Chancellor’s Court. These 17th Century rooms were used in the government and the maintenance of order in the University but also hosted King Charles I during the English Civil Wars (1642-1651). Finally you will see the splendours of Duke Humfrey’s library (1488) and hear of the Bodleian’s turmoils of the past and the successes of the present.
